RETA Engineering carries out the projecting, production, and installation of industrial rack systems for production facilities, back-of-port warehouses, and distribution depots in Hatay under a single responsibility. Founded in 1979, the company manufactures its systems in its own production facility in Manisa Muradiye OIZ and serves the region through its shipping and assembly organization.

Industrial Structure Determining Storage Needs in Hatay

Hatay is a province where heavy industry and port trade run on the same line, accompanied by agricultural processing, and the need for storage arises from the separate conditions of these three branches.

Iron and steel production on the İskenderun and Payas line is the most prominent sector of the province. Materials stored in these facilities and the surrounding sub-industry enterprises are long, heavy, and mostly handled by crane. Loads such as pipes, profiles, sheets, and billets do not fit the standard pallet logic; the carrier design is established according to weight and deflection behavior. Heavy equipment spare parts warehouses operating on the same line, on the other hand, hold stock with low turnover but high downtime costs.

In the port of İskenderun, surrounding bonded warehouses, and free zone facilities, operations run depending on the shipment and customs calendar. Stock does not stay here for a long time; fast entry and exit are prioritized.

Food, olive, citrus, and textile facilities on the Antakya, Kırıkhan, Reyhanlı, and Dörtyol line form the third leg of the province. In these facilities, concentration depending on the harvest period, humidity, and hygiene conditions enter the design.

Structural Safety Priority in Re-established Facilities

Hatay is among the provinces with the highest spectral acceleration values in the earthquake regulation, and many facilities in the region are re-establishing or renewing their warehouses to continue. In this process, it has been clearly seen that warehouse equipment cannot be considered separately from building safety.

A fully loaded rack system is a load-bearing structure on its own. In the event of its collapse, beyond the loss of stock, employee safety and keeping indoor escape routes open are at stake. For this reason, upright profiles, anchoring details, vertical and horizontal bracing systems, and beam connections are dimensioned not only according to the vertical load capacity but also according to the seismic parameters of the region.

Directly re-installing the old system in the new facility is often not sufficient. Deformation in components, anchoring condition, ground strength, and the current load to be carried are evaluated individually. Static calculations are redone for each project, and proposals are not made based on catalog capacity.

Prominent Systems on the İskenderun and Antakya Line

In iron-steel and metal processing facilities, long materials such as pipes, profiles, sheets, and billets are stored using cantilever rack systems. Arm length, spacing between arms, and upright profile are calculated according to the weight and deflection behavior of the material; if handled by crane, access height is included in the design.

In back-of-port bonded warehouses, food, and textile facility warehouses, pallet racking systems are designed according to pallet size, forklift type, and clear height. Euro pallet 800x1200 mm and industrial pallet 1000x1200 mm sizes require different bay depths and beam lengths; for non-standard loads such as sacks and big bags, bay dimensions are designed according to the product.

In heavy equipment spare parts warehouses and multi-item stocks, carton and box handling racking systems are used. Bays are arranged in an addressable order, and critical parts are taken to the fast access belt.

In facilities where ceiling height cannot be utilized, mezzanine solutions double or triple the available area. Mold management is managed with mold rack systems, while warehouses with high stock turnover rates are managed with automated storage AS/RS applications. All system types are available on the racking systems page.

On-Site Inspection, Production, and Installation Organization

During the discovery phase, ground condition and strength, column axes, clear ceiling height, sprinkler and lighting layout, forklift or crane type used, and load dimensions are recorded. Ground strength is also evaluated in newly established or renovated facilities, because the anchoring detail directly depends on this data. If an existing system is to be relocated, the condition of the components is also inspected on-site.

After capacity calculation, static calculation, and technical drawing approval, production is carried out at the facility in Muradiye OIZ. Since shipments are made to the region from a long distance, production, transportation, and assembly team planning are combined in a single calendar; when the material reaches the site, the team is ready, so no waiting occurs. Assembly is done by our own teams, and the warehouse can be worked on by dividing it into phases. Load capacity labels and instructions for use are provided upon delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Hatay Racking Systems

How is ground strength evaluated in our newly established warehouse?

Ground condition and flatness are inspected during discovery; the anchoring detail is determined based on this data according to the load to be carried and rack height. If the ground is insufficient, the anchoring type can be changed or load-distributing solutions are planned.

Can our old racking system be reused?

It depends on the evaluation result. Upright profiles, anchoring condition, bracing system, and bending and impact marks on components are inspected and compared with the current load to be carried. Sections found usable can be continued by being reinforced, and damaged components are renewed.

Can a system be designed for heavy and long materials handled by crane?

Yes, it can. For loads such as pipes, profiles, sheets, and billets, the arm length, spacing between arms, and upright profile are dimensioned according to weight, and the crane access height is entered into the plan from the beginning. Dimension and weight information must be taken precisely during discovery.

Can installation be carried out while customs operations continue in the bonded warehouse?

Yes, it can. The warehouse is worked on by dividing it into phases, and the schedule is set according to daily load traffic. First, the empty section is commissioned, stock is moved gradually, and then assembly continues in the vacated area.

What information is required to prepare a proposal?

Warehouse area and clear ceiling height, ground condition, type and unit weight of the load to be stored, target number of bays, forklift or crane type used, and existing layout plan, if any, are sufficient. The final proposal is formed after discovery and static calculation.
