RETA Mühendislik carries out the planning, production, and installation of industrial racking systems for production facilities, port-side bonded warehouses, and distribution centers in Izmir under a single point of responsibility. Founded in 1979, the company manufactures its systems in its own production facility in Manisa Muradiye OSB; Izmir is one of the closest major industrial centers to this facility.
Industrial Lines Determining Storage Needs in Izmir
Warehouse requirements in Izmir differ significantly depending on the facility's distance to the port and export flows.
The area around Kemalpaşa Organized Industrial Zone is the province's busiest production and warehousing line. In this region, where food, packaging, plastic, machinery, and automotive sub-industry facilities are located together, both raw material and finished product stocks are managed under the same roof, which requires solving different load types in a single layout plan. The logistics warehouses on the Torbalı and Kemalpaşa axis, on the other hand, are the gathering points for distribution made to the Aegean hinterland.
Iron-steel, petrochemical, and pipe production are predominant on the Aliağa line. The materials stored in these facilities are long, heavy, and mostly handled by crane; the standard pallet logic does not work here, and the carrier design is built according to the type of load. Around Menemen Plastic Specialized Organized Industrial Zone and Çiğli Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone, raw material sack and granule storage as well as mold management come to the forefront.
In the bonded warehouses around the Aegean Free Zone, Alsancak, and Nemrut ports, operations depend on the export schedule. In these areas, clear ceiling height is the most valuable resource, and multi-tier pallet storage and high-density storage applications are preferred. In agricultural product and food facilities on the Ödemiş, Tire, and Kemalpaşa line, storage volume fluctuates significantly during the year depending on the harvest period.
Layout Suitable for Export Rhythm and Seasonal Fluctuations
A significant portion of the warehouses in Izmir hold moving stock, not fixed stock. The loading schedule in export warehouses and the harvest period in food and agricultural facilities fill the warehouse in certain months of the year and empty it in others. If the layout plan is built only according to the peak occupancy moment, the warehouse operates inefficiently for the rest of the year.
For this reason, a gradual use is considered in the design: sections are planned that can reach full capacity during high periods and transform into order picking and consolidation areas during low periods. Compartments close to the shipping gate are reserved for high-turnover references, while stock that will wait for a long time is moved to the rear axis. In facilities where container loading is carried out, the loading order is configured in harmony with the reading direction of the rack layout.
Izmir is also among the provinces with high spectral acceleration values in the earthquake regulations. Upright profiles, anchoring details, and bracing arrangements are dimensioned according to the seismic parameters of the region. Static calculations are performed separately for each project; proposals are not made based on catalog capacity.
Prominent Systems in Izmir Facilities
In the Aegean Free Zone and port-side bonded warehouses, as well as production facilities on the Kemalpaşa line, pallet racking systems are designed according to pallet size, forklift type, and clear height. Euro pallet 800x1200 mm and industrial pallet 1000x1200 mm sizes require different bay depths and beam spans; the number of levels is determined according to the ceiling level and sprinkler layout.
At iron-steel and pipe manufacturers on the Aliağa line, long materials such as profiles, pipes, sheets, and billets are stored with cantilever racking systems. Arm length, clearance between arms, and upright profile are calculated according to the weight and deflection behavior of the material.
At plastic and machinery manufacturers on the Menemen and Çiğli line, die and mold racking systems are designed according to mold weight and crane access height, and drawer-type or fixed-bay solutions are determined by the frequency of mold changes.
In order picking-heavy distribution warehouses, box-carton handling systems come into play; mezzanine solutions in facilities where ceiling height cannot be utilized; and automated storage AS/RS applications in warehouses with high stock turnover speeds. All system types can be found on the racking systems page.
Izmir Warehouse Racking Systems Discovery and Quotation Process
To get a layout plan and price quotation for your facility in Izmir, reach out through the contact page. Completed applications in different sectors can be found on our projects page.
Planning, Production, and Assembly Process
The process begins with an on-site discovery at the facility. Floor condition and flatness, column axes, clear ceiling height, sprinkler and lighting layout, the type of forklift used, and pallet dimensions are recorded. A layout plan and capacity calculation are prepared based on these data, followed by static calculations and technical drawings.
The approved project is manufactured at the facility in Muradiye OSB, and installation is carried out on-site by our own teams. Since the warehouse can be worked on by dividing it into phases, the installation can be completed without stopping the business's shipping and production flow. Load capacity labels and instructions for use are provided upon delivery. The scope also includes expanding existing systems, relocating them to another facility, and replacing damaged components.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Izmir Racking Systems
How is the layout planned for a seasonally filling warehouse?
The plan is established not only based on the peak occupancy period but also on the usage range throughout the year. Sections that reach full capacity during busy periods and can be used as order picking and consolidation areas during low periods are separated. The harvest or shipping schedule is obtained during discovery and serves as input for the design.
Can systems be designed for heavy materials handled by crane?
Yes, they can be designed. For pipes, billets, profiles, and single heavy parts, the carrier is dimensioned according to the weight of the load and crane access height. For these types of loads, precise dimensions and weight details must be taken during the discovery phase; designs are not made with estimated values.
Does being close to your production facility in Manisa provide an advantage?
The facility in Muradiye OSB is adjacent to Izmir. This proximity provides practical convenience in dispatching shipment and assembly teams after production, and shortens the process in case of revisions or additional component needs.
What information should I prepare to get a quote?
The warehouse area and clear ceiling height, pallet dimensions and weight per pallet, target number of pallet spaces, type of forklift used, and existing layout plan (if any) are sufficient. A preliminary evaluation can be made with this information; the final quote is determined after discovery and static calculations.
Can you relocate our existing racks to our new warehouse?
After evaluating the type and age of the system, the load it will carry, and the deformation in its components, it is possible to dismantle and reinstall it. If the floor strength, ceiling height, or column axes of the new facility are different, reinforcement or partial renewal may be required.
