RETA Mühendislik manages the design, production, and installation of industrial rack systems under a single responsibility for production facilities, regional distribution warehouses, and port hinterland warehouses in Samsun. Founded in 1979, the company manufactures its systems in its own production facility in Manisa Muradiye OSB and provides services through shipping and installation organizations to the Black Sea line.
The Regional Role Determining Warehousing Needs in Samsun
Since Samsun is the hub for both production and distribution in the Black Sea region, warehousing needs arise not only from its own industry but also from its feeding function for surrounding provinces.
The Samsun Organized Industrial Zone and the Tekkeköy line host facilities engaged in medical devices, medical consumables, machinery manufacturing, and metal processing. In medical production, traceability and lot separation are mandatory, which is why the warehouse is designed as part of the chain of custody. On the machinery and metal side, long raw materials and heavy finished goods are managed together.
On the food side, hazelnut processing, flour, feed, and seafood facilities stand out. In these facilities, concentration dependent on the harvest period creates occupancy differences throughout the year, and sack and big bag storage is common. The high humidity brought by the Black Sea climate is also specifically taken into consideration in material selection and ventilation layout.
The bonded warehouses around the Port of Samsun and the regional warehouses distributing to the Black Sea provinces form the third leg of the province. In these warehouses, inventory does not remain for a long time; fast entry, consolidation, and exit are the priorities.
Order Picking Layout in Regional Distribution Warehouses
Most of the regional warehouses in Samsun make partial shipments to dealers and customers in surrounding provinces. In this setup, the success of a warehouse is measured not by the total number of pallets, but by how many orders are prepared without errors daily.
The layout plan is therefore built on the picking route. Fast-moving references are placed on the axes closest to the shipment preparation area and on the level where the operator can reach without bending over, while slow-moving inventory is moved to the rear area and upper levels. Compartments are numbered in an addressable format, so that the picking list aligns with the aisle order and the distance covered by the operator is shortened.
In high-humidity areas, surface and material selection are done accordingly, and the shelving layout is planned in a way that does not block the ventilation flow. Although Samsun is located in a region with relatively low spectral acceleration values in seismic regulations, the anchoring and diagonal layout are calculated according to the carried load and rack height. Static calculations are performed separately for each project; proposals are not made based on catalog capacity.
Prominent Systems in the Samsun OSB and Tekkeköy Line
In regional distribution warehouses, medical warehouses, and spare parts management, carton and box handling racking systems are used. Compartments are arranged in an addressable format, shelf heights are adjusted according to box dimensions, and fast-moving references are placed on the quick-access level.
In food, feed, and finished goods warehouses, pallet racking systems are designed according to pallet size, forklift type, and clear height. Euro pallets of 800x1200 mm and industrial pallets of 1000x1200 mm require different bay depths and beam spans; for non-standard loads such as sacks and big bags, bay dimensions are designed according to the product.
In machinery manufacturing and metal processing facilities, long materials such as profiles, pipes, and sheets are stored using cantilever racking systems. Arm length and the spacing between arms are determined based on the weight of the material and its deflection behavior.
In facilities where ceiling height cannot be utilized, mezzanine solutions double or triple the available space. Mold management is handled with mold racking systems, and warehouses with high inventory turnover rates are managed with automated storage AS/RS applications. All system types can be found on the racking systems page.
Samsun Warehouse Racking Systems Survey and Proposal Process
Contact us via the contact page to receive a layout plan and price proposal for your facility in Samsun. Completed applications in different sectors can be found on our projects page.
Application Flow from Survey to Delivery
During the survey, floor condition and flatness, column axes, clear ceiling height, sprinkler, ventilation, and lighting placement, forklift type used, and pallet and box dimensions are recorded. In distribution warehouses, the daily number of orders, number of references, and picking method are also collected at this stage, as compartment grouping and numbering layouts are directly derived from this data.
After capacity calculations, static calculations, and technical drawing approvals, production takes place in the Muradiye OSB facility. Since shipments are made to the Black Sea line, production, shipping, and installation team planning are combined into a single schedule; the team is ready when the material arrives at the site. Installation is carried out by our own teams, and since the warehouse can be worked on by dividing it into phases, daily shipments are not disrupted. Upon delivery, load capacity labels and user manuals are provided.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Samsun Racking Systems
How can picking time be shortened in a warehouse that prepares a high number of orders daily?
Fast-moving references are moved to the axes near the shipment preparation area and to the level that the operator can easily access. Compartments are numbered in an addressable format, so that the picking list aligns with the aisle order, eliminating unnecessary wandering.
Do humid climate conditions affect rack selection?
Yes, they do. Surface and material selection are made according to this condition, and the rack layout is planned in a way that does not block the ventilation flow. In food and seafood facilities, cleaning access is also left open.
Can lot separation be achieved for medical products?
Yes, it can. Different lots of the same product are placed in separate compartments, and a separate section is planned for materials awaiting control and quarantine. Compartments are numbered, and the label surface and reading angle are determined during the design phase.
What points are taken into calculation in hazelnut and feed storage?
Since the center of gravity can shift in sack and big bag loads, the support surface and beam span are calculated accordingly. Taking seasonal occupancy differences into account, partitioning that can be used year-round is made, and ventilation flow is preserved.
What information do we need to prepare before the proposal?
The warehouse area and clear ceiling height, the type and unit weight of the load to be stored, the number of references or targeted number of compartments, the daily number of orders, the type of forklift used, and, if available, the current layout plan are sufficient. The final proposal is formed after the survey and static calculations.
